Healthcare Personal Statement Tutoring Weekend 8th and 9th January 2021

Student Testimonials from Koby Kalavannan 1st year at Cambridge University and Laura Stirling 1st year at Oxford University about the Personal Statement Tutoring Programme:

Your personal statement for your UCAS application form could be one less thing to worry about! Our admissions experts and mentors have been assisting healthcare students with their personal statements for the last 6 years.  We are excited to welcome the class of 2022 to this year’s Healthcare Personal Statement Weekend on the 8th and 9th January. With the UCAS deadline being on the 15th January, this is a great opportunity to either give your personal statement that final polish or even start writing it from scratch. In either case, students who participate this weekend will feel confident that they have finished their personal statements to a very high standard.  So let us help you to take the stress away from your personal statement.  Our mentors will help you to ensure that it is completed by providing lots of help and guidance!

Who are your mentors?

Your mentors are healthcare students and admissions experts with extensive experience and training in healthcare personal statements.  You will be allocated a mentor who is a university student that has been trained in personal statement preparation, and your personal statement will be signed off by a healthcare professional with admissions experience.  We cannot guarantee that your mentor will be studying the healthcare degree that you are interested in, however, healthcare personal statements follow a similar personal statement format across various different professions and our mentors will be able to help you to tailor your personal statement to whichever profession you are interested in. The final sign off by a healthcare professional (admissions expert) will ensure that you have finished your personal statement to a very high standard.

What will happen when you enrol?

Once you have enrolled onto the programme, our student admissions and support (SAS) team will email you with the joining details and resources to help you plan and structure your personal statements.  You will be able to use the planning templates ahead of your personal statement weekend.  In the meantime, if you do wish to make a start on your personal statement that is absolutely fine, but at the same time, this is not completely necessary ahead of the weekend.

What happens on the personal statement weekend?

You will have a dedicated healthcare mentor to spend 7 hours each day (9-5pm with 30 mins for lunch and breaks during the morning and afternoon) to guide and mentor you from start to finish.  It is important that your personal statement has your own ‘unique voice’.  The mentors will not be writing the personal statement for you, but they will be able to give advice on how to work your way through the different stages of writing your personal statement from planning, drafting, editing and completion. This approach will save you a significant amount of time.  A personal statement can take roughly 4 weeks to finish writing, but with a mentor beside you, you can finish it in 14 hours (2 Days), which will free up time for you to concentrate on your mocks and exams ahead of the 15th January deadline.  The sessions will take place on one zoom channel for both days. You will have your own breakout room to share with your mentor and we have online safeguarding and wellbeing officers available throughout the weekend if students want to discuss any concerns.

How much does it cost?

The sessions will run from 9am-5pm on the 8th and 9th of January (14 hours of 1-2-1 personal statement tutoring) and the cost is £750.  We currently have a discount code Winter2021 which will save you £150 if you register before the 31st of December.  Places are limited and we operate a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis in order to keep bookings as fair as possible.  We currently have 5 spaces remaining for this event.
